
NANO Nuclear Energy (NASDAQ: NNE) has just signed a nonbinding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with engineering firm Enveniam that could help the company move its microreactors and nuclear-fuel businesses closer to commercialization.
Under the agreement, Enveniam would provide engineering, licensing, safety analysis, manufacturing, and project-management support for several of NANO Nuclear's businesses. That includes its KRONOS MMR microreactor, nuclear-fuel transportation systems, and plans to eventually develop domestic HALEU fuel-fabrication capabilities.
The companies are also looking at something that could eventually be much bigger: powering data centers.
A broader strategy
NANO Nuclear and Enveniam plan to evaluate electricity and process-heat projects for data centers and other energy-intensive customers, as well as remote communities, islands, and off-grid locations. They could also pursue federal and state funding opportunities together.
For NANO Nuclear, this fits into a much broader strategy.
You see, the company isn't trying to become just another reactor developer. It's attempting to build a vertically integrated nuclear business that includes microreactors, nuclear fuel, fuel transportation, manufacturing, and potentially power generation. Its subsidiaries are already pursuing nuclear-material transportation and future HALEU fuel-fabrication capabilities.
Enveniam could help NANO Nuclear connect some of those pieces. Its businesses have experience in nuclear engineering, licensing, safety, project integration, supply chains, and operational readiness. The companies specifically identified six areas for potential collaboration, ranging from fuel transportation and uranium conversion to reactor commercialization and advanced manufacturing.
While this is only an MOU, it does show that NANO isn’t sitting idle. It also shows where the company wants to go.
Getting a microreactor licensed is only part of the challenge. Somebody still has to manufacture it, secure and transport the fuel, deploy the reactor, and ultimately find customers willing to pay for the electricity. NANO Nuclear is trying to build that entire chain. And given the strong support for next-generation nuclear power, the timing is ideal.
