Solid Power (NASDAQ: SLDP) Delivers 57% Gain on Battery Breakthrough Hopes
November 5, 2025

Every few months, a story comes along that reminds Wall Street why the battery trade never really dies. Today that story belongs to Solid Power (NASDAQ: SLDP): a small-cap solid-state battery developer that suddenly found itself on every trader’s screen.

Shares of Solid Power soared more than 57% after the company dropped its third-quarter update and, more importantly, confirmed meaningful progress toward commercializing its solid-state electrolyte technology. Volume exploded, momentum traders piled in, and for a stock that’s spent months buried under skepticism, this spark was all it needed.

To be sure, Solid Power didn’t just post earnings and some fluff about its technology.  It actually provided evidence that its science is getting closer to prime time. The company reported continued refinement of its solid-state cells and electrolyte materials and highlighted expanding licensing partnerships with major automakers and battery manufacturers, including Samsung and BMW Group.

In plain English: the company is moving from laboratory promises toward real commercial traction. And in this market, that’s enough to light a fuse.

The bottom line is that investors didn’t seem to care that quarterly revenue came in slightly below expectations at around $4.6 million. What they cared about was the story: A small battery innovator is edging closer to a future where EVs can charge faster, drive longer, and stay safer.

That narrative – coupled with short interest and a low float – sent the stock into overdrive, hitting a fresh 52-week high of $8.86.

Of course, Solid Power has always been a speculative play, but the upside is undeniable. If its solid-state electrolyte can scale, the payoff could help reshape the EV industry.

Make no mistake: this isn’t just another lithium-ion wannabe. It’s a company developing the next evolution of energy density and safety. For investors betting on the long arc of electrification, today’s move isn’t just noise, it’s validation that the market still believes in the dream.

A Note of Caution

It would be irresponsible for me to ignore the fact that Solid Power is still pre-profit, and commercialization risk remains. If history is an accurate indicator, we know that the path from prototype to production is one that is often littered with good ideas, but with only a small percentage ever reaching scale.

But as I’ve said for years, great revolutions start small.  And they always start with a breakthrough moment that tells the market: This might actually work.
